SEO Matters

There are many different websites online that will pay writers for their work in exchange for writing and posting articles. Many of these sites have several authors who try to encourage beginners by showing how they earn full time income from even just one site, but many of those new writers can quickly become frustrated when their efforts don’t meet with the same level of success as many of the other writers who post there. One of the major reasons for this is a lack of knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO).

Many writers who start out online simply know how to write. Or sometimes they don’t even know that much, they simply know they love to write, but don’t understand how writing online differs from other types of writing. Online it’s all about getting found by the search engines. If you don’t know how to study keywords, how to place them in your article without being spammy, or how to get your articles linked to, then you will not have the same level of success as an author as someone who understands these concepts.

Writers who know how to do good research, find good topics that get a lot of searches, and write articles that can attract that traffic will do better than the writers who can’t or won’t. For this reason, online writing is far different than any other type that most freelance writers may have dealt with before.

This might not be what brand new writers want to hear, but better to find out now then later. If you want to be successful writing online for a living, you need to learn search engine optimization. Not only will this make you more desirable as a writer, but it will also make all your online articles that much more effective in getting traffic and income online.

What to Expect From an SEO Company

When SEO experts accept the job of providing a customer with SEO services in order to help them rank their websites for keywords, search terms and phrases, they make sure that these sites are ranked in a particular timeline.

They should be able to, at best, rank not less than 60% to 75% keywords or search terms in the first 10 Google rankings of the required country, for instance, Google.com, Google.co.au and Google.co.uk, among others. The timeline needed to reach Google Top 10 rankings for every phrase, keyword or search terms is dependent on a number of factors – competition among the number of websites involved for every keyword, search term or phrase, how long the site has been in operation, as well as the page-rankings of rival sites. The timeline to get to Google’s first page may range from 30 days for search terms and phrases with a few competing pages to one year in the case of those with about one million competing pages.

Clients can decide on monthly maintenance in order to retain or increase their sites’ rankings as long as they wish after the keywords or search terms have been ranked by these SEO experts. This is important because Google updates its calculations on a continual basis and this can affect the rankings. In addition, it is good to understand that there will always be competition from other sites that are fighting hard to overtake your website’s ranking and so constant algorithms of SEO makes sure that your website and business stays in the lead.

A good SEO company ensures that it provides the client with what it was hired for. If you have been in the website business for quite some time without realizing the best results possible, you may wonder where you might have erred and what you ought to do to rectify the error. Such a scenario calls for an expert with skills in SEO matters to scrutinize your website in order to unearth the actual problem. This could be as a result of various issues ranging from inappropriate keywords to poor content, which may not be hard to rectify. To those who have little knowledge about this, search engine optimization may look like quantum physics or rocket science and as such, it may not make sense, especially when it comes to some phrases and terms.

A good SEO company should be familiar with a variety of SEO systems and act professionally, and at times one may not really grasp what these experts are doing. You should let them explain what they are doing and the reason for it. They will enlighten you on the methods and tactics they are using to deal with your SEO. Since your website is your presence online, it has to be at its best.

Most traffic comes through SERP in Google; hence, hiring an expert in SEO is important in ensuring the success of both your website and business. Most people focus on the first one to three pages of Google search results for whatever they are looking for.

You need to understand that SEO is not something scientific. In addition, guaranteed SEO ranking for keywords is not achievable in a number of days or even a month. It may take several months to achieve first page rankings for keywords and phrases that are highly competitive and this depends on the number of keywords, the competition involved, how long the site has been in operation, and the page rank, among other factors.

Why SEO Matters to Your Business Website Part 1 of 5

SEO (Search Engine Optimization) helps you talk to the people who already know they want your product or service. It’s called Pull Marketing. The opposite of Pull Marketing is Push Marketing, which uses ads (TV, newspaper, billboards), direct mail, and yes, even old fashioned cold sales calls to attract your prospects’ attention and convince them they need your product or service.

The Internet uses both Pull and Push Marketing: Push are the ads that appear at the top of the search results page. Pull are your organic search results: the ones that list beneath the ads.

SEO is all about getting listed at the top of the organic search results.

Why it’s good to be in the top 10 of the organic search listing

Nearly every business owner knows that SEO is important for their website to be found, but few people know how to get to the top of the search page.

You can pay to be on the first page with a pay-per-click ad, but fewer than 6% of the people looking for your product or service will click on a pay-per-click ad. Instead, over 90% of people searching will click on the “organic” listing, and 42% (of the 90%) will click on the first “organic” listing. SEO experts at Wordtracker point out that 12% of searchers will click on the number 2 spot, 9% on the 3rd spot, and 6%, on the 4th organic listing.

Being in the Top 10 is your goal

Why 10 ten?

Only the top 10 organic listings appear on the first search page.
90% of people searching for your product or service will never go beyond the first page.
So, how do you hit the sweet spot, or at least be among the top 10? Begin with good copywriting.

Why Good Copy Writing will help search engines find your website

The more I learn about SEO (search engine optimization), the more I understand that I’ve been thinking about it backward.

In the world of search, people will learn about a product or service in this order:

1. Title tag
2. Description tag
3. Web page headline
4. Web page copy
Knowing this, it seemed logical to put most of my effort into picking out the ‘right’ keywords to improve my ranking.

What I’ve learned, however, is that I need to be putting most of my effort into my copywriting, before putting out my search pearls. Why? The ‘right,’ and often best keywords will jump out in copy that’s concise and written well.

How to pick out the right key words

Now, instead of spending too much time searching for and racking my brain for attention grabbing key words, I’m putting more time and effort in writing, and following this order for SEO:

Web page copy
Web page headline
Description tag
Title tag
Attracting the right kind of attention on search engines

It’s true, attention-grabbing keywords are critical for getting prospects to click on an URL, but keywords should relate to the web page in order to achieve my big 3 marketing goals:

know
like
trust
Why the right keywords matter

The logic is really quite simple: If you are who you say you are, and can say it well, you will be what your prospects are searching for = Win – Win.
